The Pick of the Month is EYE PAIN by Caspar and Isabel Rock.  The brother and sister duo have drawn a psychedelic world inside BEARSPACE, where prints, etchings and drawings spiral in uncontrollable patterns across the walls.

Caspar Rock has montaged his drawings digitally, creating a maze of strangely drawn monsters, eyes and shapes.  Sometimes this resembles something akin to textile design with repeated detailed motifs, when closely viewed these reveal darker creatures lurking beneath.

Isabel’s work on the other hand is illustrative, mainly showing drawn pieces.  Her ‘Giant’s’ of over 6 foot tall weird figures appear in clashing colours and fine drawing blown up on a large scale.

I have heard some people likening the artist’s work to outsider art others referencing Patrick Caulfield and Led Zeppelin. Whichever way these will certainly deliver a type of EYE PAIN.

This month, the featured venue is APT Gallery. A stalwart of the Deptford Galleries scene, APT has an intriguing story to tell. APT was set up in 1995, in the Old Harold Works. A group of artists worked together to secure funding for this project, with an aim to build a gallery space and 37 affordable studio spaces. It worked and now the gallery operates from its character-full site by Deptford Creek.
