Formerly a dilapidated public library donated by Andrew Carnegie and opened in 1905 Lewisham Arthouse opened in 1994 after members assisted with 2,000 community hours through the probabtion service providing £80,000 worth of renovation.
An impressive example of Classic Renaissance architecture with many original features, the building now provides affordable studio space to artists early in their careers. It currently has 45 spaces used by over 50 artists. It also runs regular courses, classes and workshops ranging from life drawing and photography to botanic illustration and ceramics.
